What does the Outcome Gap train on?

The Outcome Gap has developed a series of accessible and practical training modules to demystify social impact and empower supply chain professionals to manage their data and activities for greater social return.

These modules are aimed at professionals working in companies who have responsibility for managing and reporting on human rights in their supply chains.

The advent of ESG and human rights due diligence legislation is putting pressure on companies to demonstrate they are managing risk in their supply chains. While most are used to social auditing and supplier compliance management, the shift to create improvements in working conditions is new for many and we are responding to a demand for support on impact strategy, measurement and monitoring.

This training provides participants with robust methodologies and practical frameworks to measure and improve social impact in supply chains, which will be especially valuable to companies working out how to align with the UNGP Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. And while the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) hangs in the balance, there remain many drivers for companies to get on top of managing their social impact.

2

Who is the training for?

You probably work in ethical trade, responsible sourcing, sustainability or ESG departments, or even procurement, operations or human resources teams.

You may be looking at the requirements on reporting laid out by the EU CSDDD (if it comes through) or the UK Modern Slavery Act and working out how to comply.

You will face one or more of these challenges:

  • You need to demonstrate to internal as well as external stakeholders what your business is achieving regarding responsible sourcing, but you’re not sure where to start

  • You may already run a responsible sourcing programme but you’re not sure how to investigate and explain whether your business is contributing to social impact or not

  • You might have a robust approach already but want to sense check it or go deeper in one or more priority areas

Whatever the reason, if you need to know what drives change for workers in your supply chains (and how you’re going to measure that), these courses are for you.

You'll see as well that this is a hybrid course, mixing online content with personalised 121 support. We believe this may suit professionals without budget or time to undertake certified residential courses. For more details on training modality see section 5 below.

The content is very tailored to individuals in commercial organisations looking to apply these methods in their own buying and ethical functions. As such, we are not  supporting civil society, consultants or other trainers on impact management, but please get in touch if that is of interest.

Is this relevant for me/my sector?

The course has been designed drawing on our knowledge of companies large and small across apparel and textiles, food and agriculture, electronics, general merchandise and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) supply chains. However, we anticipate the methodologies used here will be relevant for any sector with a supply chain. It will be especially valuable if you have already conducted a materiality assessment and you understand the ESG risks your business faces.

Details of course content are listed under each module below.

Why study with the Outcome Gap?

This course has been designed and robustly reviewed by responsible sourcing and social impact specialists. You can read more about the expertise of the course moderator here.

There are now several free and paid-for training courses advising companies on human rights due diligence (HRDD) and new legislation. Our course provides an overview of HRDD but is aimed at practical application around strategy, data management, reporting and data credibility. The course moves beyond why due diligence is important to how you go about implementing it within a business, and in particular, how to make a shift from supplier compliance management to one of supporting continuous improvement and social impact.

Training modality

We wanted to create a training course that combines the best qualities of e-learning (videos to study in your own time), self-study (so you can produce business-relevant outputs that are completely tailored to your supply chain needs) and collaborative learning (through virtual workshops), whilst providing continuous troubleshooting support by the course moderation team.

Participants are first sent a recorded video and given three weeks to work through the video and associated tasks. We recommend you put aside a full day for this task. Obviously the more effort you put in, the deeper your results will be. After sending your completed tool back to the course moderation team, participants are then invited to a virtual workshop to discuss their outputs, work through any challenging areas and make further adjustments.

The course moderation team is on hand throughout to answer any queries and provide support.
